Description:
Opened in 1997, Florida Gulf Coast University (FGCU) was the tenth university in the Florida state system, and at the time the newest university in the country. FGCU was established as a distance learning and commuter campus, and it had no housing. When FGCU needed expert advice on delivering institutional quality housing that the students would be able to afford, they turned to University Housing Services.
The resulting Phase I student housing was a dramatic success, and the University immediately awarded additional phases to UHS to keep up with growing enrollment and demand for housing. UHS has worked with FGCU through multiple phases of student housing projects.
All 1,980 beds, in two- and four-bedroom apartment-style units, are completely furnished and include full kitchens with dishwashers, spacious living rooms and two bathrooms. Amenities include on-site security, a computer-monitored laundry facility and a Commons Building with an outdoor swimming pool, volleyball court, barbecue areas, big-screen TV, game room, vending machines and screened-in patio. The housing complex sits at the edge of a 60-acre lake, so students also enjoy water-skiing, sailing, kayaking, and canoeing.
