Description:
Windward Commons represents the third phase of student housing for AASU and the third housing project in which they have partnered with UHS.
Consisting of 569 beds, Windward Commons is being developed to fulfill a new AASU requirement that all freshmen live on campus, starting in Fall 2010. Designed to maximize the on-campus living experience, Windward Commons will give freshman students a suite-style residence hall with all the latest amenities, including wireless Internet, two full kitchens, two laundry facilities and two classrooms. It will also provide many opportunities for social interaction through common social areas and activities and events within walking distance. Construction is scheduled to be completed in the summer of 2010.
According to Dr. Vicki L. McNeil, Vice President of Student Affairs, AASU has been seeing several positive results after making on-campus student housing one of their university's offerings. "Having on campus housing is increasing student participation in student life opportunities and has facilitated more student engagement to AASU," said McNeil. "We have restarted programs such as homecoming, concerts, and dances on campus. Our intramural and club sports programs are growing at a fast rate and our new recreation center has more than tripled in use numbers from last year to this year."
