UHS Announces New Vice President of Development

St. Petersburg – University Housing Services (UHS), Inc., announced today the hiring of J. Mark Lawson as Vice President of Development.
With more than 15 years of real estate consulting and development experience, Lawson has worked in both consulting and end-user capacities for higher education/institutional real estate transactions. In addition to higher education, his industry experience includes manufacturing, corporate, hospitality and government.
Most recently, Lawson was the Vice President for Real Estate for the Georgia State University Foundation and Director of Real Estate for Georgia State University. There, he served as the primary advisor for all real estate concerns and was responsible for the coordination and negotiation of all real estate leases and acquisitions, dispositions and facility use (lease) contracts. Project highlights include the development of University Commons, , which has the distinction of being the largest privately financed on-campus student housing project in the country. This $165 million student housing development consisted of 2,000 beds, an 800-space parking garage and 20,000 square feet of retail adjacent to campus. Other projects include the negotiation and coordination of multiple office/parking complex acquisitions, all located in downtown Atlanta.
Lawson, who holds a Masters in Real Estate and Bachelors in Urban Planning from Georgia State University, is based in UHS’ St. Petersburg headquarters, where he is directly responsible for enhancing the Company’s market penetration into core markets and developing new market opportunities involving campus development projects.
